Gin Rummy Terminology

• DeadWood

  Your deadwood cards are those that are not yet melded into a set or run 

  Gin

  To Knock Gin means to have all your cards melded without any deadwood left over. Gin Rummy played with this rule is known as  "Siimple Gin" While other varieties allow you to knock with deadwood count of 10 or less 

  Knock

  A knock in Gin Rummy is the action of laying down your cards to display your melds when you win a game 

  Meld

  A meld is an arrangement of cards into sets or runs

  Set

  A set is 3 or more cards of the same rank like KKKK or 777

  Run

  A run of cards is 3 or more same suited cards consecutively ranked eg. 45678 of hearts or JQK clubs.
